St. Louis Man, 2 Others Convicted Of Vandalizing Missile Silo
9/15/2006

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- A St. Louis man and two other peace activists are found guilty of dressing up like clowns and vandalizing a Minuteman-Three missile silo site in North Dakota.

A federal jury convicted 72-year-old Carl Kabat and two Minnesota men of destroying government property. The men admitted during their two-day trial that wore clown costumes when they broke into the site June 20th. They said they spray-painted messages and splattered blood, and pounded on the lid of the underground silo with hammers.

Prosecutors said the men did more than 14-thousand dollars in damage.

The men are members of the Wisconsin-based group Nukewatch. They each face up to ten years in prison and 250-thousand dollars in fines.

-----
The judge ordered the men jailed until their sentencing December Fourth, after they said they would not cooperate with the rules of a halfway house.
