WASHINGTON COUNTY: Man with knife is killed by deputy, authorities say

A sheriff's deputy in Missouri's Washington County shot and killed a man Sunday after the man reportedly threatened him with a knife, authorities said.
The incident happened in the county, about 80 miles south of St. Louis. An official with the Sheriff's Department would not make public the name of the deputy or the man he shot and declined to discuss the case.

Authorities were called to a home near Potosi after the man began behaving erratically. Authorities told KTVI-TV in St. Louis that the suspect threatened the deputy with a knife and was shot in the chest. The deputy was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
