St. Louis Prepares for May Day

May Day, which commemorates the 1886 Chicago Haymarket Riot (and state-sanctioned murder of labor organizers), will see a wave of rallies, marches, strikes, and other actions across the country demanding fair treatment of undocumented immigrants. Organizations such an ANSWER, Jobs with Justice, the No HR4437 Network, are planning actions, both to protest the anti-immigrant House legislation HR4437, and to give a voice the 11 million undocumented immigrant workers in the US. Locally, there will be a Jobs With Justice vigil at the Basilica 4/30, and a May Day Celebration in Tower Grove Park. Also, the Cherokee Hispanic Business Owners Association is planning their first Cinco de Mayo festival for 5/7 (CAMP is participating, more details soon).
